Janice Marie O'Brien

Janice Marie O’Brien, age 92, passed away on Friday April 12, 2024, at home after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  She was born on September 23, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of William and Lydia (Doherty) Hansen.

Janice spent a lifetime dedicated to raising her children, forgoing a career to stay at home and provide love and support by her husband’s side.  In the later years, she enjoyed taking day trips with her senior friends thru the Senior Center’s locally as well as instructing line dancing, strength and conditioning classes and Osteobusters classes.  She too, had a deep affection like dad, reserved for her family and cherished spending time with them.  She always looked forward to upcoming family events, as well as attending countless sports events of her grandchildren, sitting right beside “Papa Jack”.  She will continue to gift her remaining family with a lifetime of love and memories. 

Janice is survived by her sister Doris Randazzo and her brother Donald Hansen.  She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children, John W. O’Brien (Kathleen), Maura Gallo, Kevin T. O’Brien (Phyllis), Karen Eastman (Edward), Andrew P. O’Brien (Laurie) and Lisbeth Caples (Edward).  Fourteen grandchildren, Kaylyn, Jessica, Lindsey, Joseph, Kaitlin, Karley, Kassie, Edward John, Phillip, Geoff, Maura, Andrew John, Devin, Michaela; eleven great grandchildren, Ava, Olivia, Jack, Marc, Kylie, Nicholas, Edward Robert, Isaiah, Emma, Logen, Tristan and 1 great grand baby on the way. Each a testament to the warmth and love she brought into their lives.  Many nieces, nephews and dear friends will also hold cherished memories of Janice close to their hearts.

Janice is preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years the late John “Jack” O’Brien, her sisters Rosie Harverlin and Joan Boyd, her brothers William and John Hansen, her son in law Joe Gallo.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Avenue (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.  Family and friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY  12871. 

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Sue and Trisha, who have become a part of our family.  We will always be grateful for their unwavering love, support and care for our mother.  Special thanks also, to Fort Hudson VNA and Hospice Community, particularly Vicki for her exceptional care over the past year.
